A few words on this unit of works

The ‘mystery’ around the Eleusinian Mysteries and the primordial female deities of the Earth, birth and death which were worshipped here was the first major source of inspiration for the present unit. I intended that my works narrate in their turn the cyclical mysteries of rebirth and transformation and further to attempt an initiation into the very concept of transition - passage. Passage – in this framework is linked to the archetypal mystery of creation and is rendered another ideal place of passage from the chaos of the Under -World to the surface of the form, from Nothingness to the Being of existence and action.

Between these two worlds a bond is discerned that functions as a bridge: the Egg. Its occluded, elliptical sphere, simultaneously open to infinite interpretations is an eternal and powerful symbol which incarnates both the nature of the feminine as also Creation as Motherhood as characteristically is stated in the text of the catalogue by the curator of the exhibition Ms. Maria Yiayianou.

The fruit here is now the pomegranat e: symbol of the eternal return of the ‘Kore’- daughter – fruit – seed to the earthly under-world in order that at some time of spring she re -emerges in the embrace of mother -nature-life to be reborn. Λίγες σκέψεις για την ενότητα αυτή των έργων

Το ‘μυστήριο’ γύρω από τα Ελευσίνια Μυστήρια και από τις αρχέγονες θεότητες της γης, της γέννησης και του θανάτου που λατρεύονταν εδώ ήταν η πρώτη μεγάλη πηγή έμπνευσης για αυτή την ενότητα. Θέλησα τα έργα μου να αφηγηθούν με τη σειρά τους τα κυκλικά μυστήρια της αναγέννησης και της μεταμόρφωσης ̇ και πιο πέρα να επιχειρήσω μια μύηση στην ίδια την έννοια της μετάβασης. Η μετάβαση, σε τούτο το πλαίσιο, συνδέεται με το αρχετυπικό μυστήριο της δημιουργίας και γίνεται ένας άλλος ιδανικός τόπος περάσματος από το χάος ‘του κάτω κόσμου’ στην ‘επιφάνεια’ της μορφής, από το Μηδέν στο Όν της ύπαρξης και της πράξης.

Ανάμεσα στους δύο κόσμους, ξεχωρίζει ένας δεσμός που λειτουργεί ως γέφυρα: το Αυγό. Η περίκλειστη ελλειπτική του σφαίρα, ανοιχτή συγχρόνως σε άπειρες ερμηνείες, είναι ένα αιώνιο και ισχυρό σύμβολο, το οποίο ενσαρκώνει τόσο τη φύση του θηλυκού όσο και την «Δημιουργία ως Μητρότητα», όπως χαρακτηριστικά γράφει στο κείμενο του καταλόγου της έκθεσης η Μαρία Γιαγιάννου.

Ο καρπός εδώ είναι το ρόδι: σύμβολο της αιώνιας επιστροφής της κόρης –καρπού- σπόρου στον χθόνιο κάτω κόσμο προκειμένου κάποια ώρα εαρινή να ξανα ανέβει στην αγκαλιά της μητέρας-φύσης-ζωής που θα αναγεννηθεί. Δεν λείπουν ως συνήθως τα ποίηματα –όπως το ‘Όταν το σώμα’ της αγαπημένης Κατερίνας Αγγελάκη- Ρουκ στο έργο Επιφάνεια και φράσεις- αποσπάσματα από το έργο «Το Κέικ» της Ρέας Γαλανάκης στο ́Εναστροι Ψίθυροι’ καθώς και φράσεις από τη «Μελανίππη» της Μαρίας Γιαγιάννου.
